The 2nd SIPeS International Conference - University of Opole
Opis wydarzenia
One of the greatest paradoxes of the twenty-first century is that, despite the ongoing global transformation from segregation and seclusion towards inclusion, we still live in a world marked by profound divisions. Prejudice, stigmatization, hatred, exclusion, isolation, and many other harmful practices continue to affect those who are perceived as "the Other". We strongly believe that this conference will provide an important opportunity to rethink contemporary educational concepts and practices that have the potential to enable all people to experience one of the most fundamental and deeply desired human needs: a sense of belonging. The choice of Poland as the host country for the 2027 Conference is not accidental. Poland is one of the countries in which inclusive education is being introduced into an already established system of special and integrated education, thereby creating a complex educational continuum. The pragmatic, and at times cautious, attitudes of teachers, parents and pupils towards inclusion appear to constitute one of the significant challenges in reshaping the current educational system. Against this background, the SIPeS Conference will bring together practitioners and scholars from different European countries, creating a space for mutual inspiration, dialogue, and a deeper understanding of inclusion and its practical implications. The aim of the conference is to foster critical reflection on the meaning and role of inclusion in contemporary societies and to explore ways of shaping educational cultures of belonging. More specifically, the conference seeks to rethink contemporary educational concepts and practices, to examine the relationships between inclusive, special and integrated education, and to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and experience among researchers, practitioners and policy makers. An important objective is also to identify the attitudes, institutional conditions and systemic factors that may either support or hinder the development of inclusive education. The conference is intended to provide a space for dialogue, mutual learning and the collaborative search for solutions that recognise diversity as a value and an inherent dimension of human experience, while affirming a sense of belonging as a fundamental right of every person.
