Elk Bugling Watch Sept. 15–18, 2026 | 6:30–8:00 p.m. Custer State Park Bison Center Experience one of nature’s most spectacular seasonal events—the fall elk rut! Meet at the Bison Center for a short presentation about elk and their role in the Black Hills. Then, follow along in your vehicle as we caravan to a nearby elk hotspot, where we’ll listen for bugles and watch for elk activity. What to bring: • Chairs for sitting on the prairie • Warm clothing • Patience and quiet voices to give us the best chance of seeing and hearing elk Please note that pets are not allowed at this program. There is no fee to participate. However, a park entrance license is required and may be purchased at any park entrance gate or at the Bison Center from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. For more information, call 605-394-2693 or email custerstatepark@state.sd.us.
